Out of memory
Ok while trying to start up Guildwars today I keep getting a hideous error window saying;
"Out of memory
Array.cpp(88)"
My system specs are;
RAM 512 mb
ATI radeon 9200 256mb
SB Live! Creative Soundblaster 5.1
Intel Celeron CPU 2.0 GHz
The game worked fine up until now, I haven't installed anything since I last played either. I might also add that this error occurs all the time, be it 5 minutes after startup or even an hour later, all my other games work fine. Can someone enlighten me as to how to fix this problem? While searching the internet for a solution I've found out that several others are having this problem as of today as well

You should check to see what processes are running. Ctrl Alt Delete to bring up the task manager and go to Processes tab. Sort them by memory use and see what is using it all up.
If you are running other programs, it will conflict with GW trying to gather the memory needed for the game to run, creating a memory error.
Now I'm not sure how much it uses in general (between load screens and populated player areas) so I can't give you a direct number to aim for when freeing up the memory needed. Someone else run the program and find out? (@ work, no GW here.)
Now, if you do have the free memory running, there might be a virus or spyware on your computer that starts up at random times, eating up a lot of your memory at once, booting you out of GW.
Let me know if shutting some processes down helped with your crash issue.

Ending processes did nothing, i scanned for spyware and viri etc and It was clean. I then tried to start GW up again and the error reporter thing came up instead of that ungodly windows error message so I'll just let it be for awhile.
Ps
I cut my thumb and index finger pretty bad with glass about 10 minutes ago so I don't think I'll be playing GW if it works tonight anyway.

Could it be Virtual Memory? How much space do you have left on your C: Drive by the way? What did you set your Virtual memory at? (768MB is default I believe)

I've got 23.6 gbs of 55.8 free. My virtual memory paging file for C: is set as 256-512 mbs.

On the Virtual Memory screen, does it have a Recommended: size? What's your recommendation, if it's alot higher then what you have ATM, I would raise it as high as the recommendation.
My recommendation is at 766MB
Currently Allocated 768MB
Initial size is 768
Maximum size is 1536
Though, I have well over 110+gigs remaining on my C: Drive.

as far as i know, guild wars uses as much as 200mb of memory, if ur only using a 512 try closing some other applications to see if that helps any... and also do what the others said, set your virtual mem. to at least 768

I don't mean to sound like a d**k here but if you read up the page you'll see I already said I've done those things.
On a sidenote when I tried to install an OFFICIAL ATI driver update (the one I had was quite old ) my entire computer died, wouldn't load up at all. So I reformatted and am now working with a clean computer. Will reinstall GW sometime tommorow and post results.

This game has tons of hardware compatibility issues right now, give it some time.

Wow, sorry, I'm an idiot, didn't read your first post before asking.
Not sure whats up with it... How old is the memory in the computer? The video card is a little old, but should be working fine...
Do other games work without any problems? (A few of the more intense games if possible.)

I am having the same problem, except it happpens after about 2hours in game. I usually find things pretty well, so I feel retarted for asking this, but where do u set the amount for virtual memory?
Also, besides explorer, what are the processes absolutely necessary to keep running, and how do I keep them from ever running unless I say? The only thing I know how to use is "msconfig". I keep most of the programs on there from starting upon startup, but I still have a lot of processes running.

You may be having spyware / adware problems are other programs running in the background that are acting up.
Also if you want to test your memory - http://www.memtest.org/
I would suspect other apps are causing the problem. I don't thinking throwing more memory at your system will fix the problem, just make they symptom go away for a short.

Open Window Task manager, see how much memory you have after normal startup, then start GW. Wait about 15 seconds or so, then Alt-Tab back to Task Manager, and see what it says you have then.
